SIZE OF THE BALLOON?

400 feet (150 meters) wide which is nearly the size of a football stadium.

The balloon will be filled with helium gas and it will carry the telescope with mirrors, lenses and sensors that can capture the far-infrared light.

NASA ASTHROS mission is planning to launch in December 2023 from Antarctica.

The primary objectives of the mission

  • To observe the far-infrared light that is blocked by earths atmosphere, by reaching a higher altitude. And this mission enhances to do astrophysics observations that never attempt before.
  • ASTHROS planning to measure the motion and the speed of gasses around the stars that are newly formed.
